Weekly Photo Challenge: Kiss
The challenge over at the Daily Post this week is appropriate for Valentine’s Day : Kiss
My choice is not so much a kiss as an embrace. This stunning sculpture can be seen in Coventry Cathedral. It is in what I consider to be the ‘in-between’ bit. The cathedral was badly bombed during WWII and was rebuilt and consecrated in May 1962.
This sculpture is in the ruins of the old cathedral which leads to the new building. The artist Josefina de Vasconcellos created it at the age of 90 and it was placed in the ruins to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII in 1995
When we were in Coventry many years ago, all I remember is the simple cross made of nails? twisted girders? It somehow dominated the whole space of the ruined entrance, and it moved us to tears.
That was long before this wonderful sculpture was added. Thank you for adding it to our experience.
It is a very moving place isn’t it? Definitely a tear jerker.

I love the sculpture; so fitting as if to say, “You made it.”
Does it say that it’s called reconciliation?
Perfect!
