Weekly Photo Challenge – Regret
This is Oradour Sur Glane, the village in the Limosine area of France. On 10th June 10th June 1944, 642 inhabitants were shot and the village was burnt by German troops. It was left as it was as a symbol of Regret.
You can see more about it including more photos here ‘Oradour Sur Glane’
sorry, should be lived and died through that war! not was
It’s really chilling. I had heard of it before, but it’s entirely different when you see photos of how it was left.
However I agree with previous comments that we should see these things as a constant reminder of what happened, in the hope of preventing it in the future.
I felt the same chill when we visited Dachau, even though it was a sunny day. It stays with you a long time, but that’s a small suffering compared to the people who lived and died through that was.
Delighted to have found your blog, not sure how I got here!
Great entry for this week theme 🙂
For the first time, I have came across something as “symbol of regret”. Thank you for sharing it, as your entry for this week’s challenge.
incredible but great they left it as is
Interesting historical information albeit sad.
Phew! This is like a memorial, a constant reminder of war and the regrets of the deaths it caused.
oh my, it’s good the village is left as a reminder. How many reminders like this will it take?
Yes, that is sad!
How sad!
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
A definite symbol of regret. Thanks for sharing.
Another place I had never heard of before today. Thank you for showing it to me so poignantly in your photo.
