Red Letter Day!
Today is a red letter day in our house!I do think a huge mistake has been made though as I get the first of my state pension payments! Can you believe it? Me, who is surely only 35 is now regarded as a state pensioner!
The arrival of such a day does get you thinking. We live in a house and for some reason I have a real hatred of bungalows. The only people I have known who lived in a single storey were elderly and I have always been very vocal about NEVER moving into one so the availability of stairlift solutions will be part of a future planning session I’m sure. I’m a busy lady and although grumble about not having enough time, do want to keep going as long as I can.
I know they say that 60 is the new 40 and most of the time I agree, it is quite a salutary thought – I’m officially a pensioner. Different generations have different pictures for the word. In my mother’s day, ladies who were pensioners probably had blue rinsed hair and certainly did not work. For the chaps it would be flat caps and grumbling about the younger generation. That has all changed now though.
For instance, there are organizations that provide excellent advice on all sorts of topics like health and well being, money matters, travel and lifestyle. When you are younger, you really don’t give time to thinking about ‘what about our later years’. Neither should you really I suppose but I do think that good planning about your retirement while you are still energetic can ensure that you really make the best of it.
We have a friend who puts us to shame. She never went abroad until she was widowed a few years ago but now at 84 she has seen more of the world than we have! The key is being able to move freely and using the top of my house will be essential.
Obviously, I’m hoping that won’t be for a long time but you never know and it is good to be prepared! Now, where’s my bus pass?!
Happy 60th! I thought they had pushed back the age for bus passes to 65?
I’ve been retired for seven years this Thursday. Best time of my life and busier than ever.
See, there’s lots to look forward to. 😀
