Reflecting
This is my contribution for Saturday Centus. If you remember, we have 100 words to add to the prompt to make a creative piece. This is the brain child of wonderful Jenny Matlock. When you’ve read mine, go over & read the others. You’ll find they are all different
Driving six hours is a long time on the road. Six hours spent singing car-aoke and taking in the picturesque scenery, but mostly reminiscing about the good times. But those days were long gone and my mind was in a different place now. Or was it? My pulse quickened as I passed the road sign which read “Medford 27 miles.”
How many years ago was it? It certainly seemed like centuries. Would I ever have believed then that one day I would be driving myself?
Father hated driving really. It was a necessary evil to him. However, the tradition of this annual visit had to be maintained.
Now I was alone with my thoughts. Had those trips really been fun? What about Mark, always feeling sick & having to go in the front? I was always sure it was a ploy to get that prime spot.
Now, it’s just me. How do I feel? Well, it’s different. Will they see that?
Julia, what a creative journey you took us on with each carefully crafted word.
I really enjoyed this.
I love how you stepped up to the challenge and grabbed it in both fists!
Impressive.
Thank you Jenny! How do you manage to visit all of us & leave such thoughful comments? You are brill!
I don’t like driving much myself, but when I couldn’t drive for about a month did I ever miss it. Good job with the prompt.
Cee
Thank you! I like driving & being driven so either is fine for me! Thank you for popping in!
Nicely done.
Thank you!
I can relate to Mark. I used to get carsick all the time, lol but I didn’t get to sit in the front. I more had my head hanging out the window, ha. Great use of the prompt, makes me want to hear more about why she’s going.
Sorry to hear about the car sickness! Thanks for commenting!
Challenges bring out the best in people, and your story this week is certainly proof of that! Your story was very engaging and I felt like I had a front row seat to the whole inner turmoil going on in your character’s mind. Excellent job!
Wow! Such a compliment. Glad you liked what I did with your prompt!
A good writer leaves the reader wanting more, and you certainly accomplished it here. I want to know who you will visit – relatives, friends, the cemetery where Mark is buried?
Thanks for this one……….cj
You made me smile about Mark! Thank you for coming over & commenting!
Nicely done. You left us with questions, and wanting to know more, which is a very good thing!
Didn’t plan it really – it just came! Thanks for stopping by!
I just love what everyone has done with the prompt this week, and this is no exception. You were able to convey so much feeling in so few words. This was beautifully written, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks Kat! Really appreciate your popping in!
I’m always blown away by the variety and creativity demonstrated in the Centus posts each week and this one is no exception! Great job!
Thank you! It’s a great meme isn’t it!
Want to know where speaker was going, what was going to happen…so many questions raised here!
Aha! That’s my cunning plan! Thanks you for visiting!
Oh cool. so many thoughts wrapped up in so few words. Very well done.
Thank you! It is great how these prompts get you going!
what a wonderful take! I really enjoyed this. I am impressed what everyone has done while I just fumed and whined about the prompt. Lesson learned.
It can be quite tricky getting going!
