Trapped!
I’m trapped and surrounded by banging and voices with different accents.
As I look out of my window I see lump hammers being taken to my stone wall to make way for my drive. In the kitchen the welsh lilt of a voice that reminds me of Tom Jones is singing ‘Seasons in the Sun’ while the kitchen is ripped out.
It wasn’t supposed to happen like this. The new drive (you know the problems we have had with parking!) should have been done ages ago but delays caused by an accident to the team, holidays for another team and food poisoning to yet another pair meant that they arrived today. The team consists of two Polish lads who have little English between them and clearly don’t want to be asked any questions. They can certainly wield a pick axe though!
As for the kitchen, well we were going to just replace the doors and worktops. After all it has only been in for 25 years!! After some investigating we discovered that it was not cost effective so have gone for a refit. You can see the preparations ‘Old Style’ and now just need to let them get on with it.
So, I’m in my little study with the PC and you Dear Reader. I keep telling myself that this time next week, it will all be over and looking lovely, inside and out. We are due to go on holiday in 8 days so I do hope there are no further delays.
While you’re here can you tell me why it is that workmen only drink coffee with two spoonfuls of sugar?

Hey, I never knew about relentless optimism!
Where have you been?!! I try to do that one every day.
I’m with the other commentor: Helps make the medicine go down? I can’t stand sugar so I cannot get my head around that one.
They do seem to have two sugars, no idea, maybe it’s energy? x
Helps the medicine go down?
My grandad drinks builder’s tea although he’s a chippy lol. I had one colleague who had their tea that weak you almost waved the tea bag at the cup rather than putting it in the hot water.
