Top 10 careers
A few years ago I had the chance to blog about the Top 10 Careers I would like to do for a week. Full training would be given and obviously, you would be brilliant at it. I found it while I was tidying around the blog and share it again, with a few comments.
Pilot in the Red Arrows air acrobatic team
I would need help with the sickness for the first few sorties I’m sure but ….
Now – I think I would prefer to ride in Concorde if it every came back into service
Driver of a steam train
I have brothers but they didn’t live at home so I haven’t had that whole train experience. I was terrified of stations as a little girl but now I’ve mellowed & can see the romance in steam travel.
Now – put me on the Orient Express. I know how to enjoy luxury now
Travel again – an astronaut
I’d just like to get up there & look down to get a full picture of the beauty of this tiny planet we live on. If I was able to see the pollution we were causing, I’d come back & really give the powers that be ‘what for’.
Now – I’d still like to go to space but fear what I was now looking down on was getting more damaged by the day
Concert pianist
Now this has to do with the fact that I was supposed to be learning how to play the piano when I retired but have failed to do so, so far. I blame the blogging world for this but if I could be a virtuoso for a week, I’m sure it would spur me on to do it in real life. I’d be happy to be like Jools Holland as well!
Now – still not had any lessons or gone anywhere near that keyboard but it is still on my list
Dancer
Those of you who follow my blog will know about my passion for West Side Story but any musical type show will do.
Now – my neighbour is going for tap lessons and I’m tempted to join her especially as she tells me there are ‘even old people there’
Forensic scientist
Yes, the whole CSI bit. Don’t mind which programme I’m in but I’d like some gore (may need help with the sickness again!!)
Now – still an avid fan of the mysteries of crime scenes
Delicatessen server
Odd I know but I just love the idea of putting delicious slices of meat, ham & cheese onto the scales then wrapping them in grease proof paper.
Now – I’m owning up to visiting far too many of these establishments
Sleuth/Writer
I know she’s not real, but a character like Jessica Fletcher. That way I can combine writing as well. (She’s also nearer my age which is a hug bonus!)
Now – I have been asked to write a book about 100 Word Challenge. I could do with Jessica to help me
A gardener at Villandry.
Have a look at this & you’ll see why!
Now – still one of my favourite places in the world. I need a regular fix of this wonderous place
So what career desires do you harbour? Given the opportunity, what would your Top 10 careers be?

Great post. I’m going to have a think about what mine might be, thanks for the fun idea!
What a fun post! I had the privilege of trying a flight simulator, and quickly realized it was a good thing I did not choose that career path! Though I had wanted to be a surgeon, my squeamishness at blood, quickly doused that one! I did take dancing my entire life until getting married (my grandmother owned a dance studio) and once harbored dreams about being a famous dancer. The show “So You Think You Can Dance” came 30 years too late for me! I love my job as an educator, and though currently not working, am looking forward to our move back to the U.S. and the next step in my career!
That is a great resume Michele & I hope you share that next step
Great list, Julia! I know I’m hugely privileged to love what I do…. but if I had a secret hankering it would be to have been the next Barbra Streisand! And if it’s allowed to be something related to what I do already – i’d love to join Andy Murray’s coaching team!
I’m sure I could arrange that Sue!
I had a few tap classes when my daughter was young and took ballet. I loved it and still remember my teachers voice ‘tap-step-toe-hop’!
Right so when we meet I want a performance Gilly!
Wildlife Biologist, Oceanic Explorer, Formula One race car driver.
Happy to provide a place for your dreams Dennis!
I love this! I know categorically, one of my top 10 would be casting director. I’d love to cast a film or play.
Ooo! I’ll play a part! Did dance & drama at college!
I think you have listed a young boys dream, i have been fortunate eough to fly in a fast jet, a bonus of serving in the RAF, and to drive a Steam Train, my wifes dad used to drive them when we were young.
You are one lucky man Mike! My brother was RAF & I was always thinking of getting qualified as a teacher & joining the WRAF as a commissioned officer.
Thanks for sharing this. Pilot and astronaut were two of my favorites also, while being a child. I doubts that I will fulfill these dreams in this life. Same as being a spy, but this I am not allowed to tell if I accomplished or not :-)))
Well if you told me, you’d probably have to kill me Mirela!
:-))))))))))) I’ll keep an eye on you, Julia! Just followed you through the RSS feed.
Welcome to the mad house! ?
