In the Beginning
Grandparents are very special people. Like parents, they have no job descriptions or training. They just pick it up as they go along using the skills they acquired as parents but adding a bit! I always thought that being a grandparent would be wonderful because you can ‘give them back’! As I’m not one ( & have no immediate urge to be one) I don’t know if that it true but I’ll let you know when I do.
The picture I have chosen for this week’s Gallery theme over at Sticky Fingers is of my first wedding day. (Those of you who are regular readers will know that I’ve had 3!) When looking through my stack of photographs two things stood out. One that we did not take very good photos in those days and secondly that I don’t have photos of ‘both sides of the family’ from my first marriage.
I do have some photos of my son with my parents both of whom sadly are no longer with us but I don’t have any with his paternal grandparents. They are both still making a real impact on his life despite grandma being bed ridden now. You may remember the celebration of their wedding anniversary in this post – Bewitched
So, although he was not even a twinkle in his father’s eye, I give you my son’s grandparents.
Just look at that handbag my mother insisted on getting!
Lol, the comments on here are fab! Those bonnets are amazing!
Aw! Thank you!
I love old photos–there is so much history there: in the clothes, with the people.
Sadly you are right about the ‘old’ & the people! 😉 Thank you for stopping to comment!
What a BRILLIANT photo…I’m so loving those blue bonnets!
Touch of the Bo Peeps eh! Great to see you here!
I was more in awe of the hats than the bag!! Fabulous photo. xx
My maid of honour told me recently how awful she thought they were! Only 38 years too late! Thank you for stopping by!
Bonnets, turbans and Brand new hand bags shown off to their very best, fabulous photo
Thank you! We did think we were the bees knees!
Makes me want to see wedding dresses 2 and 3
You cheeky thing! That could be arranged though! 😉
Great to see you here. Do pop in again!
That is a brilliant wedding picture: I love those bonnets too!
Love that photo! It’s fantastic! My Mum says that being a grandparent is so much more special than being a parent (!). She says it’s because she can have all the fun parts without the disciplining! And yes, handing them back is a big draw for her!
I’m sure she is right! Thank you so much for popping in!
I just never tired of looking at old photo’s and the fashion back then! Loving the bonnets too, little bo peep! 🙂 x
Grandparents are such people ppl and should be cherished.
With sadness,

Thank you for stopping by. It must have been a difficult theme for you this week.xx
Awww, brilliant brilliant photo Julia. All those memories wrapped up in that one picture. You say we didn’t take very good pictures back then, but this is SO evocative of the era and so is perfect in my eyes. Thanks so much for sharing. x
Many thanks Tara! So glad you liked it.
Oh, this is a great picture! It is wonderful and nostalgic for everyone. Even though, I don’t know them, I can imagine being there! Thanks for the personal post!
My pleasure!
Did you marry him for his hair?
No! It was a point of contention actually. He would comb it as soon as he woke up even if we had over slept! Grrr!
Never mind the handbag look at the bonnets! You looked pretty as a picture though…
Bless you! They were all the rage then!
