The Problem with Money!
I have not joined in the amazing Saturday Centus for many, many weeks but this time I just had to. The lovely Jenny Matlock is celebrating her 100TH! She really knows how to throw a party too. The prompt this week is her first and my goodness it was a long one. It is in blue and as usual we can only add 100 words to it!

My untied shoelace changed my life. As I leaned down to re-tie it, I kicked away a few leaves. When I turned my head slightly to look where the leaves had been, I was astonished to see a rubber-banded wad of hundred pound notes nestled in a little indention in the muddy ground.
I looked around to see if the owner was nearby. No. I checked to see if I was alone with my find. Yes. Quickly I went through that shopping list that I had no idea I kept in the dark recess of my mind – house, car, jewels. It would seem that I have always had the potential for spending BIG.
The bundle would not buy me those things but it would cover a good meal or an evening at the theatre with that special person. Ah, there’s the rub as Shakespeare said – he has long gone. So, best leave it there.

Do pop over to Jenny’s and see how the others have celebrated!
Awww, so wonderful seeing you here. When I see your name linked, my heart always smiles!
This was a wonderful twist on this super, super long prompt!
Money sure doesn’t buy happiness.
Hope you’re well! Wonderful ‘seeing’ you!
I like her choice. And the truth behind it.
Money cannot buy happiness.
=)
A surprise ending, ha, I thought for sure it would be spent.
I think my mind would go through the “I wonder who lost all this money?” first before I started planning how I would spend it. We often play the what if we won the lottery game but to tell the truth… I guess we are just at a point in our life where we can buy anything we want but don’t want anything. I guess others aren’t to that turn in the road yet. I liked your twist. ~Ames
I agree with Judee on this one. Excellent writing, Julia.
Many thanks!
Thank you all for your comments. Is it sad that we would only use it if there was more to spend?
I was suprised at the end, but this was such a true representation of the thoughts that would flash through the miind in this kind of situation – what can I spend it on, oh the list is long. But I like how realization and resolution came at the end.
Hooray for conscience…and Mr. Shakespeare! Nicely done!
and the contentment with “it’s not enough to make the difference” and “I don’t have my someone with whom to share the spoils” …ahh…a lovely ending!
and contentment knowing that “there’s not enough there” and “I don’t have someone with whom to share the spoils…” ahhh…Lovely!
The honest ending came as a surprise!
I wonder how many people would actually resist!
Nice indeed! The temptation is great but common sense triumphs. What’s not to like?
Oh I too have that long list locked away there! This is very poetic, and a wise choice…..nicely done!
