Bench Series – Garden
Jude over at Travel Words has an ongoing series of pictures of benches. She sets a theme for where they are placed. This month it is in the garden.
Well, while we were visiting Phil in the Dales we walked around Tarnfield Park and I saw this and one other with tribute flowers tied to it. I have never seen this sort of placing of flowers before. Reading the card on the bunch and the plaque on the bench, it was clear they were to mark an anniversary in the life of the person no longer with us.
Have you seen anything similar? Where would you place remembrance flowers?
I think if it made the people placing the flowers happy, it is a wonderful tribute. I never worry about flowers fading or wilting away. That’s what flowers do. They are a visible sign of our love and memories. The flowers wither, but not our love.

I have seen flowers placed like that a few times and assumed they were favourite seats of a lost loved one. I always hope they don’t leave them once they fade.
Good point Gilly!
I believe the flowers are meant for the anniversary of the person’s passing, whose name the bench is plagued. A small but touching gesture. Shows someone cares. <3 <3
That’s what I thought Tess.

I see this sometimes. There is one bench along the river here that has a different display throughout the year. A nice thought. Thanks for joining in with the challenge (though maybe you should have saved this photo for the October or November theme! So many benches fit into so many categories 🙂 )
Thanks

I just wanted to get one added to the theme. Life is manic at the moment so it was useful to have one available.
That’s fine – most of my benches are in gardens! So I shall have to be creative for some of the monthly themes 😉
I’ve seen benches with plaques in Vancouver – never with flowers attached marking an anniversary. It’s possible that persons ashes were spread close by so the family lay flowers there same as you would on a grave.
I wonder if the locals mind – but then if the family donated the bench it’s possible they also asked to be allowed to put the flowers there as well.
It does look like a nice big bench as well – capable of holding more than one person needing a bit of a sit down lol

All the benches were sizeable in the park
I would place them in the ground behind the plaque where they can continue to grow. It’s just my opinion, but if someone’s buried under the bench, people might think it disrespectful to sit there. And I would think that the last thing a dead person would have ever wanted to see, is a waste…
As it is a public park there would be no chance of anyone being buried there but you make a good point about folks not wanting to sit there.
