Sacred Heart

As it is Valentine’s Day this week, we’re off to the most romantic city in the world – Paris for this week’s Alphabe- Thursday. I have visited many times & never tire of visiting the many wonderful sights this city has to offer. As we are looking at the letter ‘S’, I have chosen the Basilica Sacre Coeur & have put together a slide show for you!

It is probably one of the most recognised places in the Paris landscape. Sitting on top of Montmatre, it can be seen from lots of places around the city. The view it gives you is also fantastic as you are able to spot all the landmarks that Paris is famous for.

It is a bit of a climb (there is a fenicular railway for those who may struggle) but well worth the effort. You start at the bottom of Montmatre in the Pigalle area, best known for the Moulin Rouge. Just before you get to the basilica, you come to Place du Tertre which is a fascinating area populated with lots of artists all trying to persuade you to part with your money  & sit while they create your portrait as a memento of your visit. It also has numerous eateries, many of them serving delicious crepes!

It should be on everyone’s ‘must visit before I die list’!
